The Irish Heather, GastroPub
Located in the heart of historic Gastown this Gatropub has
garnered many accolades for its service, food, alcohol &
ambiance. In a world filled with “Plastic Paddy”
establishments, the Heather stands out as a beacon of authenticity.
An Irish House that is owned by Irish people who actually
work there…how refreshing!
Why GastroPub?
GastroPubs are now a recognized form of eatery in Western
Europe. Simply put, they are pubs that serve good food. Simplicity,
while much lauded can often sell things short and the Gastropub
is so much more than just a good food pub. It is a thumbed
up nose at those temples of gastronomy that make good food
accessible only to those who can pay. What better way to rebel
than to serve posh food in a boozer? People love it.
Young chefs straight from the kitchens of restaurant icons
such Marco Pierre White and Gordon Ramsey have spurned the
path oft traveled for a more casual accessible route. By purchasing
ailing Victorian Pubs, installing kitchens and selling market
fresh menus they have created a new genre. With very little
financial outlay they can provide great food in a casual pub
environment and by doing so have rescued the corner pub from
extinction.
